It came to my mind as black as the sky.
It whistled through darkness and called,
"I know who you are, and why do you lie?
You know that I look down on all."
Late last night I did something bad.
I sinned maybe the greatest of sins.
My mother is dead. My father, unsure?
It had to be all in my head.
I told God that night, "It wasn't my fault.
The devil was there at my door."
He did these things. It could not have been me.
For I'd been asleep on the floor.
The voice came again. A different tone now.
Not blaming nor harsh as before.
"It will be alright. For I did these things.
It was me knocking loud at your door."
