I liked the sense of attachment/detachment in this poem. Makes the reader think, wonder, read again.

R :)

>I took a walk today
>Up the clear-cut hill, it was.
>I looked down at the house
>Painted green
>My crummy old truck in the drive
>
>I sat on a stump and pet my dog
>Her eyes soaking in all the lovelight they could
>Lenses burning to retina,
>Racing to brain
>Settling in her soul
>
>A wind ruffled her chest
>Flopped her ears around
>Made me smile
>
>I watched the clouds darken the trees
>I watched the rain hit the house
>and sweep across the clearcut
>
>My dog watched the whole thing, too
>Calm as can be
>Just wanting to see what her master was looking at
>
>"Well, dog," I said, breaking the depth,
>Kicking back to the surface world
>Where the storms can reach you
>But where you can breathe,
>"Time to be getting home."
>
>She led the way
>Down the logging road she's run
>so many times before
>Back to the only home she's ever known
