A sad tale. Reminded me of an evening I spent in Rajistan last year when I was entertained to a traditional marionette show, with tales that had been passed down the generations. Especially the pyre - as I had spent time by the Ganges also after some of the traditional burials. Thanks for the memories.

I like the personification in this poem, where the marionettes have hearts and souls and in the end we mourn their loss.

Raphaela.

>A wooden head, a wooden nose,
>A wooden shirt and wooden hose,
>Dancing on the table
>Parallel strings so apropos.
>
>Painted checks, charcoal eyes,
>Painted knees, flesh colored dyes,
>Dancing on the table,
>Splintered voice denied.

>A wooden mind, a wooden soul
>A wooden heart on parole,
>Dancing on the table
>Wooden legs out of control.
>
>A wooden pyre, a wooden bier,
>Smoke and ashes disappear,
>Remaining on the table,
>Strings charred and seared.
