Subject: Stone's Mountain Ski Club

The ski tow in question was sponsored by the Lion's Club. The ski tow operated on weekends until the Lion's Club got tired of fixing the holes in the radiator from the morons who would shoot up the radiator with thier guns. And yes, the "drive" for the tow was an old truck with only the frame, engine and transmission in tact. The rope wound around one of the drive wheels of the truck.

I learned to ski at Stone and remember it well. My brother Paul and I had gold colored jackets that turned black under the right arm from grabbing the rope. Which mom wasn't too hapy about, but oh well... that wasn't tghe only thing.

Almost every weekend the mountain was full of families and people enjoying what the Lion's Club provided for free. It's a shame that the few ruined it for the rest.

Stone Mountain was a great place. Although small, it was better than walking up hole number four at Bend of the River with your skiis on your shoulder. Which is where I actually learned how to ski. Ten minutes walking up the hill, twenty seconds down, and then back up to do it again.

Of course now I like to ride the heated gondolas, but I wouldn't trade the childhood memories of Stone Mountain for anything.
