Subject: Why the March Revolution succeeded
In reply to: 's message, "March 1917" on 22:48:00 06/12/03 Thu

You can answer this by 'tweaking' what you already know.

If you look at <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.johndclare.net/Russ3.htm,">http://www.johndclare.net/Russ3.htm,</a> you will see four causes of the March Revolution.
The easy way to answer this question is to say that the March revolution succeeded because the causes were so powerful that the revolution they stimulated was unstoppable.

1. Weaknesses of Russia - after you have talked about how weak Russia was, your explanation will simply say that Russia was so weak that, when the popular uprising of March occurred, the government was not strong enough to resist it.
2. WWI - after talking about how the war went badly and caused chaos, famine and Rasputin, your explanation will suggest that - when the popular uprising occurred - the government was too unpopular and weak to respond.
3. In March 1917, the Revolution succeeded because the troops refused to put down the riots, and because the Duma betrayed the Tsar and took over the government.
4. And finally, I think that the Tsar went to pieces and - when Rodzianko was telling him that he MUST do something - did nothing.

As with many of these things, you know all you need to know, it's just a matter of adapting your explanation to fit the question.
