Because the league failed to stand up to major aggressors like hitler and mussolini and japan ,all mof which were on the league commitee at some point,it showed that the orginisarion was weak and the green light was on for agression .Especially as when it did take action it only imposed 1/2 hearted santions on countries because the leagues members were two bussy putting nationalism before internationalism,One example of this is the italy abyssinia dispute Wjere italy tried to take over aby ssinia vias the suez canal which belonged to britain and france. This could have been avoided if britain and france had closed the canal but they didint as they saw mussolini as a potential ally against hitler.Furthermore when the league imposed economic sanctions they were half hearted as they did not effect italy, she was able to keep her strong economy and turn to america for extra trade.America was not a member of the league .Because america was not a member the other members of the league had little confidence and this perpetuated the downward spiral of the league and the lead up to war.
