Subject: How to prepare for sourcework questoins
In reply to: 's message, "Worked sourcework questions" on 11:13:08 05/25/03 Sun

I have not done (as I have done for the ordinary essays) 'fair copy' answers for any of the sourcework questions on the site, and I don't intend to.
The reason for this is that (where ordinary essays are a function of learning the stuff - and you can fairly much guess the topics and questions that will turn up) the examiners can set ANY sourcework question on ANY source. You should not try to pre-learn answers in the same way that you can for essays.

Therefore, the best preparation for sourcework questions is not to try and learn answers for them, but to learn the SKILLS AND ROUTINES for the different kinds of sourcework question.

See the new page on the site <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.johndclare.net/how_to_do_sourcework.htm">http://www.johndclare.net/how_to_do_sourcework.htm</a> for ideas and information.

Once you have learned the way to do/ things to include in each kind of sourcework question all you can do then is to learn to recognise 'what kind of question is this?', and to think on your feet in the exam to apply your skills to the questions which pop up.

Some of the web-pages on my site on Germany and Russia have sourcework questions from past papers (eg, if you look at <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.johndclare.net/Weimar3.htm">http://www.johndclare.net/Weimar3.htm</a> you will see in the top right a grey AQA symbol and a link to the question).

The best way to revise for sourcework questions - to improve your sourcework skills, if you want - is to attempt some answers and give them to your teacher to be marked and to make comments on them which will help you improve your style.

However, that is the only way you can revise for sourcework questions.
