WHAT A GOOD QUESTION!!!
I think NOT. I may be wrong, but, in March 1939, when Hitler marched into Czechoslovakia, Chamberlain had no hesitation in promising to defend Poland. Hitler had betrayed his true self- a liar. Chamberlain trusted Hitler with Hitler because he considered Hitler a man with whom he could do business.
And in Sopetember 1939, when Hitler ignored him and attacked Poland, Chamberlain showed that he was quite capable of going to war.
You see, I believe that Chamberlain was a good man who lived by principle and followed his principles.
While he could, he fought and argued for peace, even while the cynics said it was impossible, Chamberlain stuck in for peace, because 'before we go to war, we must make sure that it is the great issues which are involved'.
But, when he finally decided that hitler was a liar, when he committed himself to defend Poland, even when a lesser man might have said 'Poland's too far away, we can't defend it against Russia and Germany, let's renege on our promise', Chamberlain did the decent thing;' he stuck by his promise.
So, to go back to your question, if he had KNOWN hitler was going to go to war whatever, I don't think he would have appeased.
