Churchill did without doubt manage the country through the war and indeed won the war, however the entire country were under the spell of propaganda and would have done anything for 'King and Country'. All the country needed was a powerful leader at this time. When the time came to really show what this country wanted and needed, Churchill didn't get a look in. A stable society and a government who listened to the people, was what was wanted after the war, not a right wing leader who wouldn't actually listen to society. He was merely a stop gap who did a better job in winning people over than his predesesor.
