Actually, chicken-flavoured snow, you've got a good point there. In fact, the pact that Chamberlain brought back from Munich was NOT a promise by Britain and Germany not to go to war with each other. The actual wording of the agreement was that it was 'symbolic of the DESIRE of our two countries never to go to war' with each other.
So Hitler did not sign a promise not to go to war. All he signed was a statement that he did not WANT to go to war.
Well - none of us WANT to go to war, do we - anyone could sign that, even someone who intended to go to war tomorrow!
So in fact the 'promise' that Chamberlain waved after Munich was not worth the paper it was printed on.
