I don't think that Chamberlain was a hero nor a wimp. I think that the appeasement policy wasn't right. If Germany was rearming, why didn't we rearm? When Germany marched into the Rhineland, why didn't France who was our allie? If the unexpected happened and the Germans carried on into France, the French had the Maginot Line for protection. Hitler did give orders that if there was any resistance for them to just turnaround. Although Chamberlain was treated like a hero when he arrived home, maybe the people there didn't think about what could happen in the future. Hitler did break all of his promises before then didn't he? For instance, he said that what he was going to do was going to be the last thing at least twice. When Hitler held his giant military rally to show of his new weaponry etc. why didn't anyone think about what could happen. The alliance between Germany and Russia and the alliance between Germany and Italy in a way said that Hitler was trying to get all of the big powerful countries together so that they weren't against him.

I respect Chamberlain in everyway and I'm sure he tried to do what he thought was right but I think he is a bit over-glorified.
