Tyrone- try "The Whole Woman" by Greer for a more updated perspective on the femenist issue, or "The Female Eunuch" for which she became famous. I must warn you, it doesn't appeal to many men but it makes an intersting read- especially "The Female Eunuch" in which she expresses many radical views.
Don't worry, you don't sound patronising at all.
