I tried linguals and just could not get used to them and ended up switching to regular braces. I gave it a good shot, about six months but they just didn't work for me. The main problems I had where:

- impeded and slurred speech
- eating
- tongue abrasion

Speech was particularly affected after eating as the braces clog up up with food. Over the six months I had them things did improve but not enough for me to be comfortable.

Switching to outside braces was liberating. Within a week I had forgotton they were there, wheras with linguals I was aware of them 100% of the time.

Personally I would advise against them, but I guess everyone is different and I think some people adapt better than others.
