I've had 2 experiences with speech problems. The first was with an acrylic splint for 13 months (the last 3 months in combination with the braces). The second time is right now, having gotten my braces off one month ago, with top and bottom retainers. I only have to wear them for 10 hours per day, so that is usually at night. I have tried to wear them during the day when I didn't make the 10 hours of nighttime wear. My job is very public so I am talking to clients in person and by phone all day. I have to remember to slow down my speech so that I don't slur my words and to pronounce each word clearly. It was very hard at first to get used to having the retainers in place, but after a few days they became just another part of the braces process.

My best advise is to just slow down and concentrate on each word.

Hannah :-)
