I think you're talking about metal spacers? I had those. My ortho said many adults need them because our teeth are tighter and they can't fit the round plastic ones in, and because of fillings.

How long do you have them in for? Mine were basically right between the teeth, so I didn't feel anything poking. I'm not sure the wax would have anything to hold onto?
