Yeah, I work as a researcher at a university. I think the reason I got seen so quickly was because my dental surgery had an in-house ortho so I didn't have to get referred. Basically I've always had shocking teeth and I had braces when I was 9, then again when I was 16. This was to straighten out and correct my overjet (not too sure about terminology but I think overjet is when teeth stick out, overbite is when the top teeth cover the bottom teeth too much) and gappy upper and lower teeth. Although my bottom teeth are now 'perfect' I was not happy with the results on my upper teeth (I was still left with gaps and a 4mm overjet after completion of treatment at 16). Anyway, I decided that I would enquire about treatment and was shocked by how reasonable the cost was (I had expected a quote in the region of £2000).

Treatment has involved three wires, initially to straighten out and correct my arch, sort out a couple of roatations on my molars and at the moment I am in the final stage with a power chain to bring all my teeth back and close up the gaps. To prevent any relapse I am being fitted with a permanent bonded retainer.

On a day to day basis I don't really see much difference, although they have blatently moved. I was looking at some old photos the other day and I was shocked how awful my teeth used to look. Kinda wierd thinking they'll never look that bad again (fingers crossed anyway!). Treatment time was estimated between 4-8 months (in my 6th month now so probs looking at only a few more weeks before completion!).

Hope this helps.
