The retainers (I have Essix, the "invisible" plastic ones) are tight but much more comfortable than braces and you can remove them to eat and brush/floss, which is really easy and fun to do without braces! I have a lot of plaque, so I am having trouble keeping my retainers clear: they want to cloud white. I soak them every morning while I have breakfast in a denture soak. After other meals, I rinse them well and brush with a toothbrush, but NO toothpaste: according to the Retainer Brite website, toothpaste is what makes them white and cloudy. I didn't know that and used toothpaste at first. Another weird thing: my ortho is adjusting the retainers to work on my bite. I didn't know they could do that. It works like Invisalign braces, can really move the teeth around!
