Yes, follow the directions to a T. You do not want to have dry sockets which i've heard are worse than just about anything, and the pain doesn't go away over night. And your gums will get slightly discolored but don't worry as that's normal and they'll turn pink again within 2 weeks.
Definitly go for local if you don't mind the sight of a clamp wiggling back and forth and popping the tooth out. Cindy had local too, there're a lot of shots involved and the only few that may hurt a bit are the ones in front.
