Ceramic braces do not usually stain; the ligatures used do, however. You canu usually get them changed.
I can't imagine that they're any easier to clean than regular, metal braces.
I don't know about chipping your teeth, but I do believe they are harder to remove. Jo, a former brace face who visits here, wrote a removal story on the archwired main website. She wrote that the ceramic brackets broke up.
I have heard that they break up, too. I suppose it's possible to chip a tooth removing any brackets.
And ceramic braces are, by no means, invisible. They will reduce the noticeability, but you're still going to have a wire across your teeth in most cases. Observant people will still be able to see.
Someone here made a good point: when you're wearing metal braces, people know very quickly what are on your teeth. When you're wear ceramic braces, it may cause people to take second glances to try to figure out what are on your teeth.
Casey, I know you hate the way you look in metal braces, but please give it time to get used to them. I hated what I looked like, too. You may never like how you look in them, or even in ceramic braces, but it's only temporary.
I'm afraid you're acting more in haste. Remember that most people DO NOT CARE that you have braces.
Also remember that ceramic brackets are considerably larger than metal brackets and should be considered in your decision-making.
I've not received ONE COMMENT from anyone about my braces unless I told them first. Even when I was slurring like someone who had been on a four-day binge drinking spree, because of the Nance appliance, no one even mentioned anything.
I can assure you that you care more about it than anyone else. You may think you look funny, but I doubt anyone else cares.
Calm down and do what you think will be best for you. I personally think you should stick with the metal, but who am I? If you really think you should have ceramic braces and understand and accept the consequences of having them, then go for it. It's ultimately up to you.
