Hi Everyone.
I miss you all so much and thought I'd just pop in to say hello and to report I'm LOVING my nice straight teeth. Yes, I'm still in braces in the finishing stage. This Friday I have an adjustment and they will do the impressions for my lower retainer. As I understand it, I should be getting them off in another few months. I don't have any big "date" as of yet but soon. In total, it will end up being two years total in braces, which is exactly what they predicted.
I know when you first get braces you could the days at first. Then you go to counting each adjustment and the weeks until your next one. Then you start counting the months since you got your braces and before you know it you're marking it in years. I know it never seems possible at the beginning, but you eventually stop worrying about your braces and then time starts flying by.
I used to worry about staining the clear ligatures. Then I went to colors that didn't stain badly. Finally, as Lynn wrote in her journal, you stop worrying about your ligatures staining and just eat what you want and don't worry about your braces much anymore. I used to wonder if people were staring at my braces but now I never even remember I've got braces. When I don't think about them, I never notice anyone looking at them. In sum, when you are finally able to relax about having braces, life seems to go on as it did before you had braces.
I hope that is encouraging to all of you struggling with new braces. All of you feeling like you've got a mouthful akward hardware, which is making you feel like an uncomfortable teenager again, hang on and know you'll eventually feel like yourself again.
Best of all..... when your teeth are straight and gorgeous by the end of your treatment, you won't care one bit that you're still wearing your braces. No, I don't LOVE my braces. Honestly, this is my second time in braces and I don't really like it at all or any better than the first time around. Also, I am looking forward to my big day to have all this out of my mouth. When I look in the mirror, I am so happy I got braces again and I know my teeth will last longer now that my bite is stable again and teeth all aligned. I'll be sure to let you all know when I get them off! I'm hoping by September..... Cross my fingers.
Smile everyone and if you're suffering with canker sores, sore teeth, painful spacers or are still drooling like crazy with your new braces, know that things will get better soon. Big, Big Hugs to all my friends here. Love, mary from Oregon! I'll check in soon again and keep you all posted.
