Subject: White Spots

I've read a little about white spots and why they occur. I don't think I have any white spots, but I'm wondering how to tell for sure.

Can white spots form under the bracket, or only around the bracket? Has anyone run into a situation where they believed they didn't have any white spots, but then realized they did once their braces were removed?

Thanks!
