No idea about you, but as for me, I've never felt the lack of parents' love, therefore in my case this theory does not work. I began to smoke when I was sitting in the company of my smoking friends: I wanted to try it too and I liked it. That was all.

Another example when the theory doesn't work: an unwanted kid, whose mother even planned to give him for adoption, who felt himself as an orphan with his parents alive. According to this theory he was doomed to become a smoker. But in spite of those circumstances, he didn't.

So, you can see that the connection between parents' love and smoking is farfetched.
