My name is Grayson and I live in NC and I own an APBT. I recently found a Schutzhund club to train with in Charlotte and the trainer is Richard Shook. My friend is sending me a tug and a video on focusing drive because I'm having some problems with my boy. He just turned 2 in March but this is the first time either of us have done Schutzhund so I haven't raised him as a Schutzhund puppy should be raised. My problem is that I know he has the drive because he always goes after cats, squirrels, rabbits, small dogs, etc.. Also I play tug with him and he loves the flirt pole. My problem is that whenever I take him out and they test his drive all he wants to do is be sociable and visit the people. My friend told me to tie him up to my fence and just get him riled up over a tug or the flirt pole but not let him get it. He said this would build up his drive to focus on getting the tug. Is there anything else I can do or any other suggestions so he will perform and not just want to sniff around and check things out? Thanks
