don't MAKE the track hard. While learning you need to basically muscle train the dog to scent deep in each step, over and over. Don't start throwing turns in out of the blue. Do long archs, then maybe a soft serpentine type of track - getting her used to not going straight but not having to deal with big turns and not setting her up to screw up. Once she is really secure in doing these meandering tracks then you can start making some angles but the angles should be well baited. You are training her, not testing her. It is like getting too far ahead of yourself in obedience or anything - it will simply leave room to 'learn' to make mistakes and at this stage of the game, that isn't wise. What you do to get her to be scenting the track instead of the hotdogs is start with a treat in each step then every other step, then every third and forth until she is nose deep in the steps leading up to the treat.
