I have recently had an addition to my home, her name is Vicky, she is approx 1 year old and she is a rescue dog. Vicky to date has been in 5 different homes, from what I have heard from the foster home Vicky has had a pretty tough time in just 12 months. For several months she was tied to a bed to keep her from chewing the owners furniture. I have had Vicky just over a month now, for the first week all she did was run in circles, I guess that was pretty much her way of exercise. Vicky was very thin and had a couple bare patches on her back ond neck, she is eating well now and the patches are starting to fill in.
I have started basic training but am finding it difficult, as soon as Vicky hears correction such as "no" she looks for the closest place to hide, even praise will cause this.
I had my vet take a look at her, the vet is also a Dobe lover and owner.....the vet warned me to watch Vicky very closely, she explained that Vicky's eyes apprear to "look right through you", she explained that Vicky may not know a good situation from a bad situation and may always be in a defensive mode. The abuse and lack of attention as a pup will affect her for the rest of her life.
I am looking for some guidence on how to handle Vicky and some tips to turning her around and ereasing the last 12 months.
I am sure Vicky has NEVER been socialised, she will bark uncontrollably at everyone and everything.
