Subject: What was the Tennis Court Oath?

It was an oath between the deputies of the National Assembly on 20 June 1789 held inside a Jeu de Paume court near the Palace of Versailles. This tennis court oath did in defiance of orders given by King Louis XVI to disperse. They had their usual meeting chamber in Versailles locked and guarded. The oath stated by the following sentence.
"The assembly would not separate until a constitution for the kingdom was enacted."
So, why was it important? Well, many people agree and it's hard to disagree, that it was the foundation for French democracy. It somewhat kickstarted the French Revolution, and it was only some months later that the National Assembly abolished feudalism (4 Aug 1789) and passed the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (26 Aug 1789), which was written by Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson.
I hope I've covered light information to answer your question, and any corrections or suggestions Y'all may have would be appreciated.
