In reply to: Qwikblade 's message, "POLL: To move or not to move? and if so ... where?" on 20:34:04 08/27/03 Wed

Results so far: (taken from polling in the channel)

t0ne^d0g - efnet, if we can get a bot.
JayC01 - efnet, if we can get a bot.
Nipz - why move? but if so, NOT efnet.
Qwikblade - NOT efnet.
LadyUtah - doesn't matter

Here are some pros and cons of each choice. (by NO means complete, so feel free to add where needed)

efnet - PROS -
1. Most of us still go to #is0warezz (some more often than others) moving there would eliminate the need to connect to more than one network.
2. Has the biggest user base to help the channel grow.
3. Has channels for just about everything you'd want.

CONS-
1. netsplits often
2. no services

Phazenet.com PROS -
1. Larger userbase than irc-chat.
2. Wider variety of channels than irc-chat.
3. Services (ie. NickServ, ChanServ)

CONS -
1. Still have to connect to more than one network if you go to #is0warezz.
2. A majority of the channels are mp3 channels. Will likely to connect to a different network if you want something different. (This could be a PRO if mp3's is all you want :))

Zerolimit.net PROS -
1. Larger user base than both irc-chat and phazenet.
2. Wider variety of channels than irc-chat.
3. Services.

CONS -
1. Luck of the draw server selection. You have to connect using irc.zerolimit.net. No Guarantee to be on the same server as the trivbot.
2. Still have to connect to different network to go to #is0warezz.

Hi everyone,

I'm happy to go with what you guys decide. At this time, I only connect to irc-chat.net, so it won't bother me to move to any other network.

Efnet would be great since many of us still do actually go into is0warezz (funny that's where we all originally met), but as mentioned earlier in the thread, a bot would be vital in the channel. Therefore, a person with a permanent connection such as cable would need to run the bot etc. I guess the downside to this, is there aren't any services, so our nicks would be up for grabs to anyone else I guess.

Phazenet is where I get my mp3's from. I know Prometheus gets his from there too. (By the way, he's fine, I heard from him via email and he says hi to everyone, he's having puter probs at present). A pro of phazenet is it has services which is great. But like Qwik said, it really has only mp3 channels on it.

Overall, I think at this stage, my vote would go to efnet and see how we all feel there. I know dalnet was our original home, but we've moved around considerably since then, and we've managed to stay together, so another move won't hurt us.

At least we have the website as a homing beacon should we get lost :-)

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you other guys & gals think.

See ya in the channel ;)
