Here is a reply to an email I got from Charley about not having SQ and the cheater amps subject:

We are really in the early stages--just throwing out general ideas to get a
reaction to what people think of a non-sanctioned event--I don't know if
that even matters to the people that compete. We've run into SQ being so
anal and geared so much at impressing what you think the judge(s) like or
don't like--instead of building a system that YOU like and enjoy listening
to. I don't think a lot of people even understand what SQ is--most think it
is just making a system sound clear--hell I've had people say the van has a
good "quality" sound to it--LOL!! As far as the "cheater" amps--they're
getting so expensive and ridiculously rated that if anyone has one they'll
pay for it! We had mixed thoughts on this--go with max rated power/power at
the amps lowest recommended impedance/number of subs and throw out power all
together(db drag has done this recently) We finally thought that if there
are many cheaters out there--they'll all get stuck together in the 0-300
watt class anyway. I do like the idea of giving extra point for
showmanship/creativity we may kick that around and do something like we did
for the safety/install extra db thing. Jack Weiss was here and I showed it
to him and he had one good comment--where can you stick the mic? So, we
will have to address that too. For SQ, I think I would like to have the
vehicles there on display and showing them off-sharing ideas but not judged.
I guess the reason I keep going back to is that I see SQ as being a system
for yourself to listen to, not others to criticize and judge it.

Stock and mod rules--we kinda generalized that but we meant sub amps and
enclosures--the biggest thing we ran into here was what if some kid throws a
box w/ a couple of 12's on the rear seat of his car-should he go up against
Filler, (or a car w/ a wall) for example who has taken the rear seat out of his Dakota to make
room for a 15 and 2 12's? I don't know how else to make this seperation for
a situation like that.

Extreme--you got it-if it needs pushed into the lanes--all the more fun--and
that's what it's all about isn't it??

I think this could work financially as well -- we threw out a scenario w/ 50
cars @ $20 each = $1000, less about $300 for similar trophies to what USAC
was giving out for 1st through 3rd, still leaves you with $700 for
advertising/rooms/travel/food expenses. We are going to try and get all the
particulars worked out and pitch this to some dealers and see what they
think.

Thanks for the feedback!!

Oh, and even extreme has to have the mic facing forward--we might do a port wars for fun or cash pot fund or something!!
