Hello Larry,
I just wanted to say that I too served with the 618th HEM from 7-67 to 7-68. However, for 7 months I was TDY. At the 618th I was a mechanic. I was in the first maint. platoon with SFC Little as platoon SGT. I remember the second platoon was headed by SFC Bozell. Other than that, I can't recall much in the way of names.
When I returned to the 618th about a week before DEROS, in July 68, no one in the orderly room knew who I was. They dug around and finally found my TDY orders. I was TDY to a small Combat Support Unit, Task Force Finstad then Task Force Moroz, that supported elements of the first brigade of the 1st Cavalry in I and 2 corps. This duty was waaay different from the state side BS of the 86th and the 618th.
To this day, I am glad I was away from the 86th, as I was able to be witness to what horror war really is and not the benign view from a rear area as Cha Rang Valley.
On the 5th Maint BN's site, they have posted a few photos I supplied them from my 86th/618th days (daze).
Best regards, Fred
