I was stationed at Ft. Stewart, Ga. in parts of 1959 and 1960. I was in the 618th Ordinance Co. Our barracks started out in the old hospital before moving into the new brick barracks shared with the paratroopers.

I remember when word came that Elvis Presley was going to be discharged from Ft. Stewart. I remember seeing a large banner across the entrance street to the base proclaiming "Welcome Elvis". Unfortunately at the last moment Elvis was sent to Texas for discharge. While we maintained vehicles including tanks we did clear an artillery range used in WW2.
