Import of Pet Animals into India


Domestic pets like dogs, cats, birds etc. can be brought into India by a passenger coming to India subject to producing an health certificate from an authorised Veterinary Officer to the following effect:


Pet
Health certificate
Dog To the effect that the pet is free from Aujossky's disease, Distemper, Rabies, Leishmaoiasies and Leptospirosies.

Cat To the effect that the pet is free from Rabies and Distemper.
Parrot To the effect that the pet was subjected to a compliment fixation test for Psittapois with negative results within 30 days prior to actual embarkation.



For dogs and cats originating from countries where Rabies infection is known to exist, a health certificate giving the following particulars should be produced:

- record of vaccination;
- vaccine used;
- brew of the vaccine;
- name of the production laboration of the vaccine;

It should also contain a statement mentioning that the dog / cat was vaccinated against Rabies more than one month, but :
- within twelve (12) months prior to actual embarkation with nervous tissue vaccine; or
- within thirtysix (36) months with chicken embryo, and that both the vaccines having previously passed satisfactory potency tests
