Subject: LST at Danang

I don't have any direct knowledge of this incident, but did serve on two LSTs from 9/66 through 9/67. These LSTs were homeported in Sasebo, Japan and typically landed supplies and troops either on the coast or in the delta. All of them belonged to LANSHIPRON 2, or landing ship squadron 2. They were also all operating under the MSTS (Military Sea Transportation Service)direction, which in turn was controlled by the Department of Commerce- not the Navy- everybooody supsected this was done just to help hide a

small cost of the war. In practice we had a squadron commander who was a Lt Commander who reported to ComNavForV

The reason I am giving you all this admin stuff is that you may find some success in looking at some other agencies for info. The log of any ship in harboir at this time as well as logs from the port authorities are probably archived and available on a FOIA request.

Hope this helps.
