Hello,
I'm Bryan from Kentucky and used to shop at the Hills in Ashland, KY all through the 80's. Although we lived over an hour away from Ashland, we still made that a weekend ritual almost every other week. I miss those trips so much and I even still go to that parking lot on occasion and just sit there and look at the empty building and dream of the old days. I'm crazy, huh? I remember the toy department the most as that's where the majority of my toys came from and I was in Heaven everytime I walked those aisles. A memory that stands out in my mind is the elaborate toy displays they had. If I remember correctly, there were large glass cases with G.I.Joes, Transformers, and other classic 80's toys spread out complete with a battlefield with grass, trees, and hills. They really got us kids wanting to buy everything from the shelves after seeing them "in action" in the displays. I truly don't remember this being done at any other stores. Aside from sitting outside the old, abanded store and reliving memories, I also have tried to sit down and draw out the inside floor plans as I remember them. Surprisingly, I can walk down the aisles and explore that entire store in my head. It's funny how certain memories really stick with you like this. Anytime I get down and in a bad mood, I think of my childhood and weekly journeys to the Ashland Hills for the newest toy and a corndog. Anyone here go to the same store as I did? I would LOVE to see some pics of this store while still operating and especially of the inside. I would PAY for them if needed!! Also, does anyone else remember the displays as I do? One more thing, am I the only one to go as far as to sit in the empty lot? Guess I'm just a sad person, lol. I really look forward to hearing any responses.
