ok noone, i'll explain it to you. here's the deal:

you're a normal person, and you don't see the point in paying lots of bucks just to sit in a room with a bunch of weirdos and get some thrill from breathing air that is in the same town where your idols grew up.

its kind of funny, real fan clubs have had this kind of luncheon/breakfast whatever event for a long time, with one exception...the artist comes too. lol...

maybe the theory is, that cuz its The Day, the Official Day...there will be an unexpected drop-by from One Of Them. Yeah, and maybe monkeys will fly...oh, excuse me...must remember noone's ban on obscenity..lol....I guess if there isn't a visit from the gods they will just all go en masse to the old haunts, and try to absorb the atmosphere that formed the psyches of their heroes.

you know, on a more compassionate note, its true that obsessions arent that rare, nearly everyone engages in some form of obsessive-compulsive behaviour, and i guess this one isnt that unusual. i think what gets me the most is how the obsession blots out the person's understanding of the object of the obsession as another human being with feelings. i know not all these chicks are that far gone, but they just seem so eager to leap into attack mode when the artist does something they dont approve of. so i guess, the bigger question is, how does anyone change them? is there any way that they could ever be enlightened to see how detrimental their behaviour is, to themselves and others? the last time i tried to illuminate hearts on another board, my message never saw the light of day. it was in response to the most rabid, venomous "fan" i have ever heard spew on a page, and to those who ran quickly to her support. my unheard plea for sanity follows....

in every member of humankind, beats a heart. that heart, if normal, feels. no matter who you are, no matter what your occupation, those who deride you, those who wear their hate with pride, will at times unnerve you. do not think, for one second, that the torrent of negativity that is occasionally unleashed on those in the public eye, falls harmlessly away. do not believe that there is some magical bulletproof coat, that protects the hearts of those who make music from the madness of those who believe they own them. please think about the possibility, in this new milennium, of showing respect for those you profess to love.

just a serving suggestion....

I guess the most ironic thing would be for the Band to actually show up to the big Shindig, and bring their girlfriends!!! Oh it would be beautiful! I can only imagine what a select few of their (fair-weathered) fans would have to say about that!

just be happy its not a fan breakfast...nothing could be quite as hideous, as decaf coffee and assorted concrete rolls and spreads, while discussing "is it true robby actually is 6'3'', but looks smaller on tv...and jennifer is actually a former member of the go gos, and john refuses to eat oysters, but likes sushi!" the horror of it alllll

too many more missions to fly, im afraid...if you're insane you get to stop, but if you stop, you must be sane, so you have to continue...sounds a bit like touring, maybe?

yeah, they dont call one's stay in the military a "tour" of duty for nothing. i guess those on the no-slack tours of the world can comfort themselves with this though, catering is better than mess hall..well, usually. civvies beat the hell out of uniforms. and no matter what the army tells you, my suspicion is civilian pilots are better...

plus, not nearly as many bad guys to battle, even counting unions, promoters, crazed fans, lazyass security, hotdog media members and the worst of all, disc jockeys.

mess hall cannot be worse than catering, its impossible...the art of rubber chicken has been perfected for generations...mixed vegies? the infamous 'sandwich platter'? impossible, i say...lol. and as far as bad guys go, i notice you were careful to leave out lawyers, road managers, and the ever-popular-at-lynchings, programming directors?

and its never ever just plain chicken, no matter how many times its specified...

as for my glaring omissions: Anyone who lets a lawyer go on the road deserves chicken au sloppy sauce...plus, i try not to offend the barristers among us, they seem to deserve the white glove treatment..or is that the rubber glove treatment..lol

road managers? they're already nearly homicidal as it is. plus, they carry the per diem.

and program directors are all just disc jockeys with a meaningless title to make up for their infinitesimal salary....shhh, but dont tell them or we'll have to shoot them.
