I agree that they ORDINARILY have it all on computer. However, last week I was listening to KODJ on my drive home from work and just in time to hear the DJ (Rocketman, because Rockin Rob was doing the morning shift that week) put on the "chief engineer". Rocketman asked, "so what's happening here" and the engineer said "we've had a meltdown." Apparently, all of their computers were unavailable for some reason. (And if any of you know what happened, I would love to hear it.) Rocketman invited listeners to call in with requests. He said "if I can find a CD of it, I'll play it. Otherwise, this means I get to play whatever the heck I feel like." For a while, they were going without commercials, and then when they did play one there were several seconds of dead air before and after it, as if the CD with the ad had to be physically swapped out with a music CD. At one point, there was about four minutes of dead air, which started right in the middle of a song. When music resumed, it started with a new song, and I suspect a backup tape at the transmitter site might have kicked in at that point, since between songs, a spot for the station played that KODJ has not used for months. At about 5:40, the station appeared to take over again, but the wrong CD was in the drive since the station played the aircheck that ordinarily plays at 5 o'clock -- "Rockin Rob is set to rock you back into time" which was of course not the case, since Rockin Rob wasn't even there. I don't know how late into the evening their problems lasted, since I got home at that point.
