Voicetracking is when they are able to "can" someone either locally or from another market to "sound live." It's fooled even the best of us (which is not me, I get fooled easy). Apparantly it saves a lot of money.

However, you sacrifice the quality of local radio and localism, as well as running the risk that if your listeners find out you've been "fooling" them, they will get angry and change the station. Nobody likes to be fooled - yet again why I have a hard time listening to anything at night anymore.

Automation, at least you aren't trying to "fool the listener." They know it's a computer talking to them.
