Semiconductor manufacturer STMicroelectronics has unveiled a new chip line which promises lower power consumption and higher performance.
------------------------------------------------------------Dubbed the ‘Nomadik’ multimedia processor line, the chips are designed to run on smart cards, advanced mobile devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and cellular phones supporting 2.5G and 3G services.
------------------------------------------------------------
The Nomadik chips are compatible with various types of mobile devices. The chips support a wide range of applications including CMOS imagers, smart card ICs, flash memories, biometric verification chips, Bluetooth radio chips and other data storage solutions, he said.

The Nomadik chips architecture combines the ARM 926 central processing unit and two smart accelerators one for audio and one for video designed specifically for the encoding and decoding of complex multimedia content.
