's message, "Hong Kong's Octopus smart card/contactless/fare payments" on Wednesday, February 05, 04:18:27am Hong Kong Theaters Launch Chip Card Loyalty System UA Cinemas, a chain of seven movie theaters in Hong Kong, has introduced a loyalty program based on contactless chip cards. Consumers use a photo kiosk to enroll and to obtain the personalized Loyalty Club, a process that takes two to three minutes, according to Hong Kong-based MajorLink, the smart card system developer. Other so-called "loyalty kiosks" in the theaters allow customers to preview movies, check on their rewards points and redeem points for coupons. Cardholders also can check their points and preview movies at the Member Zone section of the chain’s Web site, www.uacinemas.com.hk. According to MajorLink, the project involves 20,000 chip cards, 66 contactless card readers for payment terminals, seven photo kiosks and 12 loyalty kiosks. MajorLink says future plans call for the theater to use the contactless chip card devices to accept the Octopus card, a chip card used widely in Hong Kong for paying transit fares. MajorLink offers smart card technology under the SenPass trademark. (2003-09-08) [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
