Mitsubishi Corporation has been selected as the supplier of Sony contactless smart cards and card readers for Land Transport Authority's Enhanced Integrated Fare System(EIFS), Singapore-wide smart card based integrated fare system. The fare system for transit application is scheduled to be fully operational in the year 2002. ------------------------------------------------------------ On April, 1999, Land Transport Authority awarded the design, installation of the central computing system and bus & train processing systems of EIFS to ERG Limited, a leading Australian technology company. ------------------------------------------------------------ Mitsubishi will be supplying over 5 million contactless smart cards and 22,000 contactless smart card readers, both of which will be developed by Sony Corporation, to ERG Limited for EIFS. ------------------------------------------------------------ Mitsubishi Corporation is the supplier to ERG Ltd. of Sony contactless smart cards and readers. Mitsubishi Corporation often works to create new demand and develop new markets for infrastructure products. Mitsubishi has served as international marketing channel and project coordinator to negotiate technical and commercial terms of supply on behalf of Sony. ----------------------------------------------------------- Mitsubishi is also the supplier of Sony card and reader supplier of Hong Kong's integrated transit payment system. ----------------------------------------------------------- EIFS will be the most advanced multi-purpose fare system in the world. The smart cards will be used for transit applications on buses and subways, offering a new level of convenience to passengers, low maintenance operation to transportation service providers and high overall security. Furthermore, the system will be capable of future expansions in areas outside transit and the cards are likely to be used in applications such as for access control to the restricted area. ------------------------------------------------------------ Land Transport Authority is a governmental body of Singapore whose objective is delivery of effective land transport network by planning, developing, and managing the most advanced transportation system.
