The company is sound. Photo: VIKI LASCARIS Peter Fogarty has stepped down as chief executive of fare-collection technology company ERG as he faces nine months recuperation after an accident. Mr Fogarty said yesterday he was still on crutches and could not sit down after breaking a hip in a tractor accident in August. The company has appointed expatriate Australian Allan Sullivan to take over in January. Dr Sullivan has secured an early release from his current role in Switzerland heading up Siemens' heating, ventilation and air-conditioning products division, which makes electronic systems for buildings. Dr Sullivan has 30 years' international experience developing engineering and technology companies, mostly in Europe, and speaks German and Dutch. Mr Fogarty said it was a good time to step down as the company was on a sound footing after a capital reconstruction. He said that after an intense period implementing objectives set by new shareholders, "we think we can improve the company more . . . but I'm not the right guy to do that if I'm not fit and well". advertisement advertisement Chairman Tony Shepherd, noting Mr Fogarty's workload and travel commitments, said ERG was "a global company with most of its operations offshore and the chief executive is the glue". "It is an extremely demanding job in that regard," Mr Shepherd said. ERG shares rose 3¢ to $1.27 yesterday. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
