ERG said Prepayment Cards Ltd (PCL) had won preferred proponent status for the fare collection project in Yorkshire. The project, due to start in 2005, is expected to generate about $60 million in revenue from the supply of a card reading structure and a seven year operating contract. ERG has a 47 per cent stake in PCL, which will rise to 55 per cent before the finalisation of contracts for the "Yorcard" project in Yorkshire. When fully implemented, the Yorcard scheme will be one of the largest multi-modal, multi-operator smart card schemes in the UK, with more than 1 million cards issued. PCL has an exclusive licence in the UK for ERG's software, which the company claims is the world's first truly multi-application processing software. The project is an important win for ERG Group in the United Kingdom, where it is attempting to grow its portfolio of long term operating contracts. "With the addition of the Yorcard project we expect to build our total UK card base to more than 2 million," ERG said. The contracts are expected to be in place by the end of the year, by which time a UK government decision on funding for the project should be announced. ERG shares picked up five cents to $1.14. http://www.ozestock.com.au/MessageView.asp?PostID=280589&Symbol=ERG Monday October 6, 11:05 AM Australia ERG Gets GBP25 Mln UK Smart Card Contract MELBOURNE (Dow Jones)--Australian smart card company ERG Ltd.
