Date Posted: Thursday, July 17, 01:35:50am In reply to: 's message, "Perth tender lodged 29/11/02." on Wednesday, December 25, 08:35:31pm http://www.thewest.com.au/20030717/business/tw-business-home-sto105408.html ERG falls as it loses Transperth smart card tender ERG Ltd shares tumbled today after the company missed out on the tender for a smart card ticketing system in its hometown of Perth. The shares slid as much as 16 per cent following news that ERG had been pipped at the post by Delairco Bartrol/Wayfarer Transit Systems as preferred tenderer for the SmartRider contract, worth more than $30 million. The contract is to provide a fully-integrated smart card ticketing system for the city's bus, train and ferry services. Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the preferred tender was more than 30 per cent lower than its closest competitor. Delairco Bartrol, part of engineering and infrastructure company Downer EDI Ltd, has been Transperth's incumbent ticketing contractor since the late 1980s. Its tender was with United Kingdom-based Wayfarer, which recently set up bus and rail smartcard ticketing systems in Northern Ireland and Sweden. Downer EDI shares closed steady at 74 cents, but ERG shares ended 13 cents or 11 per cent weaker at $1.03 after rising sharply over the past fortnight. ERG's Asia Pacific managing director Rob Noble said in tendering for projects the company was committed to achieving a positive cash flow profile and return for shareholders and was not prepared to compromise these principles to gain market share. "Having recently being selected to supply systems in Seattle, Stockholm, Sydney and Washington DC, which will contribute revenue in excess of $500 million to ERG, it is very disappointing not to be selected for the contract in Perth," Mr Noble said. ERG, one of three companies to tender for the project, has been named as the reserve tenderer for the project. -AAP [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
