's message, "SchlumbergerSema In Belgian Citizens EID Card" on Monday, February 10, 02:38:38pm Finland: Plans of new combined electronic id-card ----------------------------------------------------------- eGovernment news ----------------------------------------------------------- Helsinki, 4 November, 2002 (Esmerk) — In Finland, the Government proposes that the electronic identity card and social security cards are combined into one electronic identity card. The issue has met with problems due to confusion relating to data security issues. At the recommendation of the Data Protection Ombudsman, a paragraph was added to the proposal stating each person can individually decide for himself whether information relating to social and health services are included on the card. ------------------------------------------------------------ The electronic identity card has not been as popular as was expected. Until now, about 13,000 Finns have acquired the card. The new combination card will probably cost about EUR 40, while the present card costs EUR 29. The card will be valid for 5 years. ------------------------------------------------------------ Finnish Citizen Card and Electronic Identification - Finland is busily implementing a (smart) national Electronic ID card to be used when citizens wish to interact electronically with public authorities (http://www.vaestorekisterikeskus.fi/). It will be available to all citizens at a cost of some US$ 50. As a lure, citizens will be able to use their EID card as a travel document within the EU member states. ------------------------------------------------------------ [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
