I've been using the Halfords motorcycle oil in my 197 GPZ1100 (same engine) for a few years now, with no problems. As mentioned elsewhere, changing a cheaper oil more often is considered better than keeping a more expensive oil for longer.

There is one thing that, I believe, has been missed by everyone in this thread ... and that is that it is crucial to use an oil designed for use in motorcycle engines. This is because car oils contain anti-friction additives which can cause clutch slippage in motorbikes, where the clutches sit in the engine oil, unlike car clutches that are dry.
Check on the container .. Jaso MA spec means it is good for wet clutches.
