I've read that you should use bike specific oil as car oils have friction inhibitors in them that can make a bike's wet clutch slip. Also, the oil has to contend with the chopping & shearing forces in the gearbox as well on a bike, as the engine oil also lubricates the gearbox. That aside I used to be a car mechanic & the old British Leyland Minis & Metros shared their gearbox oil with the engine's as well & they seemed to cope O.K. with run of the mill cheapo car specific mineral 20/50 with no ill effect. I do wonder at times if bike specific oil is hype.
