Chaps, have just read the dilema you are in and I know its stuff all help but I'd think twice about grinding shims down! I did my D1 shims last year and read a few bit of info and they all seem to say at no point ever consider grining shims, they are very hard, its difficult to get exact tollernces and most important of all is that you can weaken a shim by grinding it and under the high pressures of the engine find it breaks and damages the engine, which would be a bad thing!
