My bike has 85,000 miles on it, and although the gearbox is very clunky and the change a bit vague it always finds first gear with the clutch in. Try pumping the lever, if that makes it easier then you have air in the system and need to bleed it again. If it makes no difference you cvould try changing your oil for a different brand. I use a £15-a-gallon semi-synth from my local shop and it seems to do the trick ok.
