Subject: Steering Head Bearings?

Riding down the autobahn I thought I had a front-wheel puncture because the steering went "funny", sort of woodenish. I checked and the tyres were OK. Turning the steering I noticed a sort of click or detent when the wheel was pointing forwards and I was sitting on the bike. On the centre-stand with the front wheel in the air there is nothing wrong. Does this indicate a steering head bearing failure? The tyre is fine and there is nothing fouling the steering path.

Cheers,

Nick in Munich (nickATpettefarDOTcom)
