Hot savannah summer,
Bright afternoon,
Almost incandescent;
Blazing.
Still river waiting,
Promising cool ministrations,
Liquid balm
Just below
It's warm countenance.
You stood silent,
Perfectly balanced
atop rolling crags
Of river rock;
Slick with time,
Heavy with age,
Tinted moss green for effect.
Suddenly
You threw your slender arms
Up together,
Your head dipped
In an attitude
Of eager supplication,
Your sleek silver aspect
Seemed to thrum in
Anticipation;
Your leap was poetic,
Smooth and sharp,
Your back curved taut;
The sinuous arc of a diver.
You split the heat
Without a sound,
Leaving only
Brilliant ripples
Of sparkling reflection
In your wake.
