Subject: Bloodstains In The Snow.

Bloodstains In The Snow.

In land of dreams, fear
suddenly shoots an arrow
into my back,
and as I fall to earth,
mortally wounded,
my arms spread wide,
like the one crucified.

I awake in terror from
another nightmare,
wet from sweat,
chilly to the bone,
wondering why,
wondering how and then
wondering why I'm alone.

While falling back to earth
my arm landed in emptiness
on your side of the bed,
where it still feels
a slight trace of your warmth,
that has stayed behind.

Again I can feel that arrow's pain,
the moment it's poisoned head
rips the flesh,
penetrating,
crushing the spine,
injecting instant death,
either way.

There is only just one slight
distinct difference;
the pain is in the heart
and no arrow sticks out
at the back...

Amygdala, Goddess of survival,
sounds the chemical alarm,
and the life saving poison adrenaline
floats from her heart
to embrace mine.

At the open backdoor in the kitchen,
I pick up your trail;
bloodstains in the snow,
red on white,
beside the imprints your bare feet made
in the fresh fallen snow.

With a slight tap on the shoulder
the doctor awakes me from what seems
just another nightmare,
but as I enter your room
the bandages around your wrists
place me right in the center
of reality.

While embracing you close to my loving heart
I silently pray to God
and thank Him for being merciful
once again.
